7.16.12 – USA vs. Brazil Basketball Exhibition
One of the coolest assignments I had this summer was the opportunity to shoot an exhibition game between the American and Brazilian basketball teams. Obviously it’s not as cool as shooting a game that actually matters, but come on, it’s team USA basketball. LeBron, Kobe, Durant, Melo, Coach K, James Harden’s Beard. Oh, and the Obamas and the Bidens just catching a game of hoops. I usually don’t get overwhelmed by celebrity but I don’t know if I’ll ever have the chance to photograph the best basketball players of our generation and the President, First Family, and Vice President all at the same time ever again. I don’t know if that situation will ever happen again. But, one of the best parts of my job is getting to experience amazing events like this.
Even though this event was packed with celebrities and important politicians and athletes, the most memorable moment came when Barack and Michelle Obama were put on the “Kiss Cam” and then didn’t kiss, eliciting a ton of boos and jeers from the audience. Eventually the First Couple got a second chance during the 4th quarter when they were put back on the “Kiss Cam” and actually kissed.
