Bump, Set, Spike, Repeat

Volleyball is about the only sport that I have a very ritualized formula for shooting that I stick to almost religiously.  Because the action is regulated to one specific place, and happens in such short spurts, it’s easy to develop a rhythm, especially when you’re shooting a tournament three days in a row as I did last week for the Athens Messenger.  Sit court side (maybe move to a higher vantage point once a match), pick a player to follow for a point, look for any action during play, look for any emotion immediately after, chimp, repeat, switch to shorter glass, repeat, switch back to longer glass, repeat, go home, edit, show up next day, repeat.
